Ouch!

Jesse got his first skinned knee.

It was a beautiful January day here in Katy, so Jesse got to wear shorts outside for the first time as a walker. He's been enjoying walking around outside for a while now. He loves it! Jesse was walking down the driveway, fell, and skinned his knee. It was Jesse's first skinned/bloody knee. He was hurt and cried but calmed down quickly once I picked him up. By the time we walked to the front yard to Scott, he wasn't crying and his knee was bloody.

Here's the aftermath:

I'll be pretty shocked if this is the only time this happens. But I can dream that it will be. :)

Perspective

There are certainly times of frustration when I spend all day every day with a growing 13 month old boy. The great majority of my day, Jesse and I have a lot of fun. He makes me laugh, we play, I watch him play, and we're happy. Then there are moments that happen a lot of days where he and I aren't as happy with one another.

Those frustrating moments usually happen in the evening when Jesse wants me to hold him as he directs me where he wants me to go with the leaning and thrusting of his torso. I try to fix dinner for my hard-working husband who works all day so I can stay home and raise our son. Jesse wants me to give him the hot pan on the oven or my glass of water, which he will dump all over both of us then toss on the ground. It has happened with cups AND one glass. He may get mad that I take the fireplace rocks or dog food out of his mouth.

I tell myself many 'One day...' statements:

One day Jesse will be able to use his words to tell me what he wants instead of yelling.
One day Jesse will be able to help me pick up his messes.
One day Jesse will not tug on my legs and yell while I cook dinner.

Today is the 10 year anniversary of the plane accident that killed 10 OSU basketball family members including Nate Fleming. One article about Nate really touched me. It's told from the perspective of his dad, how much love he had for Nate, and how he'd give anything to have another day with his boy.

This gives me a better perspective that this time with Jesse will fly by. Everyone says it goes so fast.

One day Jesse will not want to be with me as much as he does now.
One day Jesse will not want me to hold him.
One day Jesse will be at school, and I'll wish he was with me.

That helps me enjoy the moments Jesse wants me to be happy. It helps me treasure these moments rather than looking forward to a time in the future. Each day Jesse will grow and learn and overcome some challenges, and new challenges will come.

I'm thankful for our Jesse! I'm thankful for today and each day we've had with him.

January 24th, 2011

I took a couple fun pictures yesterday of Jesse. I'll just share some of what we do in a day.

TEETH!! Here's a good shot of Jesse's teeth. He likes it when I startle him, so I hid around the corner of one of our kitchen cabinets. When I saw how big he was smiling and laughing, I decided to grab the camera to get a good toothy grin. :) What a cutie!!

***Warning on these next 4 pictures: Barry is recovering from a skin infection that caused him to have sores on his head. In order for the vet to examine these sores best, she had to shave a spot on his head. It was ugly, but it's healing and the hair will grow back.

1. I notice Barry is being ridden by my 13 month old cowboy

2. Barry lays his head down in defeat, knowing that if he resists any of this ridiculous behavior, he will be chastised by his Mama (me).

3. Jesse raises his hands in the air, boucing up and down. Barry raises his head, planning to make an escape.

4. Barry prepares to leave, and Jesse makes more of an effort to tackle him to the ground - giving it the whole of his 20-something pound body. Barry got away. I didn't get onto him.

San Antonio Children's Museum

Scott, Jesse, and I went to San Antonio for the Alamo Bowl. We had such a fun time. While checking out things to do, we found a children's museum withinn walking distance of our hotel. They boasted about a new toddler area for children under 3. It really was great. Jesse loved the other kids there, and he loved the activities they had.

Jesse liked the fish in the tank.

More silly fishies

Playing on the car track

Jesse LOVED this. The colored cylinders fit into holes with lights. He wanted to stay here the whole time, but we encouraged him for explore the rest as well.

Photo Shoot in the Park

We've had some really pretty days this winter in Katy. Jesse, Barry, and I try to take advantage of those days by heading to the park in our neighborhood. There's lots of room for Barry to run around. Jesse now can walk around the park, and he's liked the swings for a while. Here are some pics from a recent trip in January.

Loving the Swing

What's over there?

He's beautiful

He obviously doesn't care to ever smile and pose, but I like these 'looking away' pictures too.

Grass is a tougher terrain than the sidewalk

Heading this way

Having fun!

Jesse loved having freedom to explore

A Hairy Story

We definitely waited too long to cut Jesse's how. We realize that now looking back. Hindsight is 20/20. Scott and I decided to wait until after Jesse's first birthday to really cut his hair.

This BOY needs a haircut

Just another good shot of the curls on the side - hangin' out after the birthday party with Uncle Todd. (Monkey see, monkey do? Todd is applying chapstick, and Jesse seems to be copying.) :)

We had trimmed a piece of hair a few months ago (August 2010). There was a section on the back of Jesse's head that was longer than the hair below - quite a bit longer. We trimmed that up, then let the hair around his ears grow like crazy. It grew and grew and curled and went crazy.

Trim, trim - take care of business, Mama

This needs to be cut

Scott and I debated about who would cut Jesse's hair. We decided my mom could do it when we went home for Christmas.

It was a sad experience for Jesse. He cried. :( He must have very sensative hair. No one knows.

Dad thought a bottle might distract him and keep him occupied...

Jesse may be frustrated with us one day for letting this happen -
the long hair growth, that is.

Dad held tight so Jesse couldn't move around and into the scissors.
Jesse didn't like it.

Done. And SO sad!

But much improved! :) We're ready to cut more!

Still more to be told. Once Scott and I got used to the idea of cutting Jesse's hair and realized how cute he looked with his haircut, we were ready to take more off. This time around, I cut Jesse's hair at home. I put him in his booster seat and bribed him with craisins and Nilla Waifers. He did good - and now he looks GOOD! :)

He's adorable but still a little shaggy

He just needs a little off around the ears...

Show it off, Jesse!!

A new 'do' :)
